Sorake Bay

Nias Island, Indonesia
🪸Sharp reef😮‍💨Hold-downs🏝️Remote🚶Difficult access

Sorake Bay, commonly known as Lagundri or simply Nias, is one of Indonesia's original wave discoveries—a perfect mechanical right-hand point that produces rides of up to 300 meters when solid Indian Ocean groundswells arrive. The wave reels along a keyhole-shaped reef with such consistency that it became a pilgrim destination decades before the Mentawais were explored. The 2005 earthquake raised the reef and changed the wave's character, but Nias remains a special place where heavy barrels and world-class walls coexist. This is Indonesian surf history made manifest.
