Surfing Morocco
Morocco is the closest world-class surf destination for European surfers, and it punches well above its weight. The Atlantic coast catches powerful North Atlantic swells and funnels them into long, peeling right-hand point breaks that are among the best in the world.
The Taghazout region north of Agadir is the epicenter — a stretch of coastline packed with quality points, reefs, and beach breaks within a 20-kilometer radius. Anchor Point, Killer Point, and Hash Point are the headliners, but there are dozens of alternatives. Further north, the coast around Essaouira and Safi offer uncrowded alternatives.
Beyond the waves, Morocco delivers an immersive cultural experience — the medinas, the food, the Sahara on the doorstep. Accommodation ranges from budget surf hostels to luxury riads. And with water temperatures mild enough for a 3/2 wetsuit and air temperatures in the 20s, winter in Morocco feels anything but cold.
