Surfing Senegal
Senegal is West Africa's most established surf destination and one of the most underrated wave zones in the world. The Cap Vert peninsula juts out from Dakar and catches North Atlantic groundswell from every angle, producing right and left point breaks that fire from October through April.
Ngor Right, on a small island just off the Dakar peninsula, is the marquee — a long, peeling right that handles size and rewards positioning. Yoff and Almadies offer beach and reef alternatives within minutes of central Dakar. Further south, Toubab Dialaw and the Casamance region open up empty point breaks for travelers willing to go remote.
Senegal's appeal goes beyond the waves. French is the official language, the country is one of West Africa's most stable democracies, and the food (think yassa poulet and thieboudienne) is exceptional. Water is mild (18-24°C depending on season), the sun shines almost every day of the dry season, and the Senegalese surf scene is welcoming and growing fast. It's a frontier destination that rewards the early adopter.
