Surfing Costa Rica
Costa Rica delivers the rare combination of consistent waves, warm water, manageable logistics, and genuine adventure. With surf on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, there's almost always a wave working somewhere in the country.
The Pacific coast is the main event — long, powerful beach breaks from Guanacaste down through the Nicoya Peninsula to the Osa Peninsula. Spots like Playa Hermosa, Santa Teresa, and Pavones offer everything from grinding tubes to endless longboard walls. The Caribbean side picks up winter swells for a completely different vibe — tropical reef breaks in a Rastafarian-influenced culture.
Costa Rica's commitment to conservation, stable democracy, and tourist-friendly infrastructure make it one of the easiest Central American countries to navigate. Add in world-class sportfishing, zip-lining through cloud forests, and some of the best coffee on Earth, and you have a surf trip destination that satisfies the whole travel party.
