Surfing Brazil
Brazil has the largest surf population in the Americas and a coastline that stretches over 7,000 kilometers — more than enough room for waves. From the volcanic island perfection of Fernando de Noronha to the consistent beach breaks of Santa Catarina, Brazil offers waves for every taste.
The northeast coast (Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte) catches South Atlantic and east swells in warm tropical water. Fernando de Noronha — a UNESCO-protected island 350km offshore — delivers world-class waves in postcard-perfect settings. The southeast coast from Rio de Janeiro south through São Paulo to Florianópolis catches more consistent swell and has the highest concentration of quality breaks.
Brazil's surf culture is passionate and competitive — the country has produced more WSL Championship Tour surfers than any nation outside the US and Australia. The energy in the water is electric, the food is incredible, and the nightlife needs no introduction.
